Giltrap Group Motorsport Powers KartSport

Aug 23, 2024

From Formula One to our successful IndyCar contingent and our best rally driver, Hayden Paddon, everyone shares a singular starting point on the road to international success: KartSport.

Karting, while it may seem far removed from the glamour and outright speed of top-level motorsport, is, in fact, the most competitive form of racing. If you win here, there is a high chance that, given the opportunity, you can win anywhere. This intense competition makes karting thrilling and engaging for all involved.

“Giltrap Group has been a long-term supporter of KartSport New Zealand, which is crucial in enabling the sport to host more than 200 race meetings annually across Aotearoa. Without Giltrap support, these events would not be possible, and we are grateful for the continued commitment to KartSport” says Brent Melhop, President of Kartsport New Zealand.

For Giltrap Group Motorsport, it is more than a sponsorship. “Motorsport was one of Sir Colin’s greatest passions, a passion that has been passed down through the generations,” says Hamish Miller, Head of Giltrap Group Motorsport. “Karting is where it all began for so many iconic drivers, and we’re delighted to continue our long-term association with Kartsport and explore ways to grow our partnership.”

The link with our greatest drivers is reflected in every one of the 1000+ karts sporting the iconic black-and-white Giltrap Group logo worn by Liam Lawson, Shane van Gisbergen, Matt Payne, and  Ryan Wood.

This year, Giltrap Group’s support includes a zero-emission element, adding a Polestar 2 Performance Electric Vehicle to the Kartsport fleet. Reflecting Giltrap Groups and KartSport's commitment to sustainability, along with adding a sporting touch

Alongside the Polestar 2 is the new Volkswagen Amarok, which offers a market-leading combination of practicality, refinement and safety. With a 3.5-tonne tow rating, an impressive 405nM of torque, and 4MOTION, the Amarok is ready to deliver at every KartSport event.

Along with their commitment to KartSport and our top overseas drivers, Giltrap Group has also focused on the next step for New Zealand motorsport talent on and off the track. The Giltrap Motorsport Junior Scholarship offers one young driver a fully funded season in an all-new McLaren Artura GT4 in the 2024-25 GT NZ Championship. Additionally, aspiring race engineers are included in the team's pit crew.
