Volvo kicks off production of the EX90

Jun 12, 2024

It’s all smiles at Volvo’s factory in Charleston, South Carolina as they commence production of Volvo’s upcoming electric flagship SUV, the EX90.

The EX90 represents a significant shift for the Swedish automaker, as the first Volvo car powered by core computing technology – establishing a new era of safety for their cars.

“The fully electric Volvo EX90 is the start of a new era for Volvo Cars – a new era for safety, sustainability and human-centric technology,” says Jim Rowan, Volvo’s chief executive.

The EX90 is based on Volvo’s next generation, born-electric EV technology base, with a fully electric range of up to 600km (WLPT). The EX90 has been designed to be the safest Volvo car to date, utilizing next-generation passive and active safety technology and software informed by a broad suite of sensors.

The core computing technology that the EX90 is built on is always connected, meaning the car can be constantly improved over time through software updates delivered directly from Volvo’s software engineers. AI and real-time data collection work seamlessly to inform Volvo of where improvements can be made.

Local specification and pricing are yet to be announced.
